One Month

Miss Emerson Kate is officially one month old today! Time is flying by, but we are enjoying every minute with our little girl.

She is pretty alert through out the day. She is starting to sleep for longer stretches at night {She's been sleeping about 5 hours consistently this past week.}, and she takes several hour-long naps through out the day. She loves to be swaddled, and will put herself to sleep. We are on a pretty consistent routine of waking up, eating, playing, and then sleeping. She sleeps in her bassinet at night right now, but naps in her crib. We'll transition her to the crib very soon.

She loves music and to be sung to. It calms her down pretty quickly. She is not generally a fussy baby unless her tummy hurts. Once that is cured, she is as happy as can be. She has started smiling some, and can easily recognize our voices. She loves to hold your hand or on to the collar of your shirt while you hold her. I think it makes her feel secure. She is also independent and wants to be left alone at times. She will fuss until we lay her down and leave her alone.

She's getting stronger, and can hold her head up for a few seconds. She can roll from her back to her side {her favorite} if she is swaddled. She is trying to do it without the swaddle too though, and it doesn't look like it will be much longer before she can do it.

Her first month has included: her first shopping trip, eating out, meeting lots of friends and family, having her first baby-sitters while I grocery shopped and we looked for a new car, and lots of snuggle-time with Mommy and Daddy.

She LOVES her bath! She becomes so relaxed and will kick her leg up on the side of her tub. I'm pretty sure she would stay there for hours if we let her.

Emmy Kate,

You have changed our lives in the greatest of ways. We prayed for you to come for the longest time, and we are so very thankful that you are here. You make your Mommy and Daddy so happy. We couldn't imagine life without you. You change and grow every day. We can't wait to spend many more months with you. We love you to the moon and back. :)
